Metlakatla Wilderness Trail

The Metlakatla Wilderness Trail is intended for recreational use only. Users of the trail enter onto and use it at their own risk. Metlakatla assumes no liability whatsoever resulting from any person’s entrance onto, or use of, the trail. Ferry Cost $7 cash fee per person each way. ⚠️ WARNING: Bears and other wildlife may be present in the area.

Be sure to read the trail rules before coming to the ferry dock. Trail hikers are expected to dress appropriately for the weather and come prepared with food and water for the day. Please note that pets are not allowed on the trail.

The trail starts on a 5.5 km gravel path, followed by a 3 km cedar boardwalk. The last 4.5 km has the marked trail passing through mossy forest floors and coastal areas. There are three suspension bridges and a forest canopy walkway that leads to a tower with views of the wilderness.

The Metlakatla Wilderness Trail is available from June 3rd to August 29, 2025, open Monday to Friday.
